Yeoman's In the Fork

Yeoman's In the Fork.
I'm embarrassed to say that this is the first "actual" book store I've been in besides Books-a-million or a regular library. Yeoman's was so fascinating and the guides were so informative. I had a general idea that people collected writings from Presidents, but I had no idea how in-depth all this "book collecting" got. From the 1st Edition of Huckleberry Finn all the way to Writings of Presidents, I had no clue how interesting these things were. I can honestly say, before our trip to Yeoman's, I probably wouldn't have ever walked in a book store like that and just enjoyed looking at the books, but the whole time we were there, I never once got bored. It was nice to go from class talking about all the different types and covers and things and then going into a collectors book store and seeing things that dated back to around the time we discussed in class. I would LOVE to go back to Yeoman's and/or other bookstores to just explore a little more on my own.

It speaks for itself.

I LOVE THIS ADD. Personally because, I hate smoking. But along with other things, people don't understand how bad it truely harms their bodies. This add is exactly "saying" what the product makers put on the warning layers. Starting with the fact that the box is in the shape of a coffin; all the way to what the representation of the cross on the front of the box stands for.

Maddox.

My oldest cousin graduated from UT last year with a major in Graphic Design. She is now working for a company in Knoxville,TN called Asen Advertisting & Marketing. They recently decided they were going to do an add to send out to old/new clients. The company decided to go with a "rocker" themed add. I got a call asking if they could use Maddox (my son) in the add.  I saw the pictures a couple weeks ago, but Asen just sent me the finished add a couple days ago. The add and layout, itself is kind of simple but the pictures are what make the add stand out. I emailed my cousin (Brookney) to get the full scoop on the add to help understand the concept of the add.

Brookney Morrell (Asen Advertising and Marketing)::

the 'doing':We used the ad to as an eblast to send to all of our clients as a friendly reminder 'hey we do photography too!'
A lot of marketing firms do not offer in-house photography as a service..so it's a perk that Asen does…and quite a few people unfortunately do not realize that we have this service..so the point of the eblast was to make people aware of this fact. For the clients that were aware of our photography...we just wanted to hit them again with a series of new striking images that might appeal to them and get them thinking about how they might could use our photography.

the concept:We had recently did a campaign for a lawyer who work with motorcyclists…the lawyer himself is a biker, so for his campaign we photographed him looking like a hard, gruff guy who could relate to his target audience. It is unusual for a lawyer to want to be pictured this way so we wanted to highlight this and use the images for something else.

Around the same time, Paul my boss came to me and asked me to come up with an idea for a photography e-blast. He wanted it to be striking..something people wouldn't expect to come from our agency.

…so I went to the book store to browse around for inspiration…..I saw a picture of a baby with an afro…and for some reason (it's the way my mind works lol ) I thought it would be ironic to send out an e-blast with a soft baby contrasting a hard, gruff biker…but somehow linking the too so they shared some common ground….thus taking two unlike things and joining them together.

So we got baby Maddox dressed him up and got the perfect shot of him gazing at the biker….'in wide wonder at the joy he had found.' (that line is from an old rock song actually, "Bad to the Bone.")

The headline of the e-blast , We've Gone Bad was to tie everything together…from the opening copy and the bad boy images to the new images that awaited inside the e-blast.

history:
To make sense of all this I guess you need to know, that a lot of the photography that Andrew has done in the past has been sort of the typical/blah and strictly directed kind of thing…but within the last year or so they have given him more freedom to do whatever he sees fit….and the images are coming out so well! Everyone comments on them saying how much they love the work…..so there again…'we've gone bad' means we've gone awesome..bada$$ lol. and the e-blast was saying like 'here check it out for yourself' kind of thing.
